An analysis of the relationship of the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina towards development strategies and an analysis of the development planning legal framework in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina – these were the topics of a workshop for employees of the Federal Development Programming Institute (FDPI), which was held in Sarajevo on October 25 under the Project Strengthening Government Institutions and Processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a focus on public policy development in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The workshop was lead by Selim Kulić, the USAID project consultant.

In addition to having a pronounced information approach to numerous issues in the field of strategic planning, reporting and monitoring, the media are also expected to contribute to a positive social environment in a critical, analytical and well-argued manner for the purpose of implementing the agreed tasks, programmes and plans in all spheres of economic and social life, and thus also strategic programming, planning and implementation.

However, when it comes to the analysis of the development planning legal framework in the Federation, during the workshop it was underlined that in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina there is no law that would define and regulate the basis of strategic planning and render possible horizontal and vertical connection of strategic planning actors. As concluded, the adoption of a single law in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina would ensure a harmonised approach to strategic planning and synergy of development plans in the overall strategic planning system in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The purpose of this workshop was to enable and train employees of the Institute to deal with activities in the field of the adoption and implementation of the Law on Development Planning and Development Management in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
