Sarajevo, September 27, 2019 - A workshop to discuss the analysis of the state of energy and energy efficiency in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held today. This is the third in a series of workshops related to the creation of the Development Strategy of Federation of BiH 2021 - 2027. The organizer is the team of the Federal Institute for Development Programming. The Government of the Federation and the Prime Minister’s Office fully support the process of the Development Strategy creation, whose representative, Gordan Čahtarević, addressed the participants at the very beginning of the workshop.
Energy sector is one of the most important industries in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federation of BiH with a long tradition and significant potentials and opportunities, as well as challenges for further development.
During the workshop, representatives of key actors in the field of energy production and energy efficiency (Government of the Federation of BiH, Federal and Cantonal Ministries, Chambers of Commerce of FBiH, Elektroprivreda, Environmental Fund, Union of Municipalities and Cities, associations active in this field, ...), assisted by experts Mirza Kušljugić and Haris Ćatić, considered the main problems, challenges and potentials. The participants agreed on the key strengths to be a base for development solutions, along with awareness of existing weaknesses and possible problems within the field of energy and energy efficiency. It is emphasized that the current availability of natural resources (coal and hydropower) that support existing conventional power plants, in the context of security of supply, and the great potential of renewable energy and energy efficiency, should be taken into account. The challenge that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will face in the context of adapting to the requirements and obligations of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2, produced by our energy sector, is also highlighted.
