Sarajevo, October 03, 2019 - The team of the Federal Institute for Development Programming continues to organize workshops related to the development of the Federation of BiH Development Strategy 2021 - 2027. The state of health and life quality was the topic of today's, eighth, workshop.
According to preliminary data from the Health Report 2017, the leading causes of death of the Federation population are circulatory system diseases, with a share of 51.6% (rate 5.1 ‰ - 508.2 / 100,000 inhabitants), followed by malignant neoplasms with 22,3% share (rate 2.2 ‰ - 219.6 / 100,000 inhabitants). These two disease groups make for about three-quarters of all causes of death. In the Federation of BiH, the life expectancy of residents is constantly extending. The average age of deaths in 2017 was 72.5 years, while in 2018 the average age of deaths was 73 years. In the same year, the natural increase was negative, data on the birth rate in the Federation indicate the low birth rate.
In the Federation of BiH, we have a situation of unbalanced health insurance coverage in different cantons. The highest level of coverage by insurance is in Bosnia-Podrinje and Sarajevo Canton, the lowest in Canton 10. Current spending per capita in 2017 was KM 819.
Dr. Aida Pilav was the moderator of the workshop, while representatives of key stakeholders in the field of health and quality of life discussed known problems, potentials and challenges, suggesting possible solutions.
