Sarajevo, October 01, 2019 - The transport sector (transport and transport infrastructure) is an important precondition for the development of the economy and the living standard. The existing transport infrastructure in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in a whole country, does not meet the needs of citizens and the economy. This is visible from the transport services: rail, road, water, air, public transport and other subsectors of transport. The state of the transport system and its individual subsystems in BiH, and therefore the Federation of BiH, is marked by obsolescence of transport infrastructure and resources, unbalanced development of subsystems, as well as inadequate organization of management and operation of the subsystems. This weakens the country competitiveness, moreover researches show that this is one of our weakest competitive factors.
According to the Global Competitiveness Report 2018 of the World Economic Forum, BiH is ranked 89th out of 140 countries in the field of transport infrastructure. According to this report, BiH is one place higher than the last Albania from the Western Balkans region, which is ranked 100th, while the ranking of other countries is: Croatia 36th, Serbia 48th, Montenegro 86th, etc.
According to the report, BiH is ranked 86th out of 140 countries in the field of information and communication technologies, and it is in last place in the Western Balkans region. Ranked places of other countries are: Croatia 53rd, Montenegro 58th, Serbia 60th and Albania 74th. This sector is the ground for development of all other sectors of modern economy and society, therefore it is very important and Bosnia and Herzegovina must monitor the rapid development of digital services and the increasing demands of the economy and society to transmit large amounts of information through digital networks.
